There are quite a few causes of bad breath. The most common is poor oral hygiene. This can result in food particles lingering in your mouth leading to bacteria build-up. The bacterial waste results in mouth odor.
That being said, if you are suffering from chronic bad breath and toothpastes and bad breath mouthwashes simply aren’t helping, then it may be one of many signs you may have a dental issue. Cavities, gum disease or gingivitis, or dry mouth can all cause bad breath, but there are other serious underlying causes as well. Visit your dentist as soon as possible to find out what options are available to you.

To keep your breath fresh throughout the day, you should do the following:
(1) Maintain good oral hygiene. You should floss and brush your teeth twice day to remove food particles and plaque. Pair an effective cavity-prevention toothpaste with a mouthwash formulated to freshen breath.
(2) Clean your tongue. Bacteria often reside on the tongue, and using a tongue scraper or toothbrush can help to clean your tongue and reduce bad breath.
(3) Stay hydrated.
(4) A dry mouth can contribute to bad breath, so drinking plenty of water can help, along with chewing sugar-free gum to stimulate saliva production.
(5) Watch your diet. There are foods that help with bad breath, and foods known to cause bad breath, such as onions and garlic. Reducing your sugar intake can also be beneficial as sugar can contribute to tooth decay.
(6) Visit your dentist twice a year for cleanings and to address any dental issues that may cause bad breath
